STANLEY’S KOPJE

Stanley’s Kopje is nestled in Mikumi National Park, approximately a 50-minute drive from Kikiboga airstrip and around six hours from Dar es Salaam International Airport. This unique camp is situated on the only elevated terrain in an otherwise flat expanse of the park, perched atop a rocky hill within the Mkata floodplain. This prime location offers exceptional game viewing, particularly near the Mwanamboga Waterhole. Named after explorer Morten Stanley, who journeyed through Mikumi National Park, Stanley’s Kopje provides breathtaking views of the park’s vast plains.

The camp features 12 spacious Meru-style tents, each uniquely themed around explorers or historical figures from the slave trade era. These tents are elevated on wooden platforms with thatched roofs, providing shade and comfort while you enjoy wildlife sightings from your private veranda. Inside, you’ll find large double beds, a generous deck for relaxation, an en-suite bathroom with solar-heated water, a lockable safe, battery charging facilities, and complimentary laundry service.

The main area, or banda, is positioned at the hill’s summit and offers stunning 360-degree views. This Swahili-style structure, with its steeply pitched roof, includes a central bar and dining areas oriented in all four cardinal directions. Below this, there’s a shared lounge area adjacent to the swimming pool, perfect for cooling off and continuing your game viewing from the pool’s edge.
