Serengeti National Park
It’s merely every national park in Tanzania obtained its name from local languages of tribes living around the area, some includes lake Manyara national park and Tarangire national park to mention but a few. The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai language which approximately means “Extended place” or Endless plain. The park was established in 1951 and was once one big land which encompassed Ngorongoro area until 1959 when it was separate. Serengeti national park is undoubtedly the biggest known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value. The word itself conjures up images of amazing African wildlife wondering endless, treeless plains, wooded hills and acacia lined rivers, kopjes which appear like islands in the vast of ocean of grass. With more than two million wildebeests, approximately half a million Thompson gazelles, and more than quarter a million zebras, the park has a greatest concentration of plains game in Africa. A unique combination of diverse habitats enables it to support more than 30 species of herbivorous and approximately more than 500 different bird species, small rivers and swamps are scattered through the park; heading north into the park the grass becomes noticeably longer in wet season and it is usual to see grant gazelles as well as occasionally small groups of topi and kongoni; ostrich and secretary birds stalk the grass while a family of warthogs often scurry away. Out of the vast ocean of grassland rises great granite outcrops known as “Kopjes” which have their own range of vegetations and wildlife, cheeky hyraxes and lizards play on the rocks and a profusion of birds ranging from superb starlings, lilac-breasted rollers, barbets to ring-necked doves to name but a few fills the atmosphere with their songs. Giraffe nibbles the tender leaves of the thorny acacias; buffalos lumber along and all manner of game and impala graze nervously –Damaged trees shows the presence of elephants. The park is a home to wild dogs and other main predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, at night the soaring cough of the leopard and whooping laughs of hyenas interrupts the incessant ticking of the cicadas.
The Serengeti national park is largely a destination never to miss as its popular for its seasonal annual wildebeest all together with zebra migration but also likely place to observe all the big five game viewing in the northern safari circuit due to its size we recommend you would at least perhaps need more few days to view as much variations in the wildlife and topography which goes as far as the eyes can see.

When to visit the park
A Serengeti safari offers top wildlife viewing all year-round. However, if your goal is to witness the wildebeest migration, you need to be in the right place at the right time. The wildebeest migration takes one full year to complete before the cycle starts again. This means there is a good chance you can witness it throughout the year, but certain highlights only occur in certain months. For instance, dramatic river crossings occur between July and August in the far west, and calving season starts from December to March. And between April and June, you’ll find huge herds migrating to the Grumeti region before making their way back to Kenya.
