RUFIJI RIVER CAMP

Rufiji River Camp is situated on a scenic promontory along the banks of the Rufiji River, within Nyerere National Park, near the Mtemere entrance gate. It’s about a 6-hour drive from Dar es Salaam via Kibiti, covering roughly 280 kilometers, and only 2 kilometers from the Mtemere airstrip. Designed by local artisans, the camp features traditional Makuti palm roofs, locally sourced Selous paving stones, and sustainably harvested hardwoods, creating a blend of comfort and elegance amidst natural beauty.

Guests can unwind in the shaded swimming pool between safari excursions. The camp boasts 11 classic tents, each thoughtfully spaced along the riverbank and covered with thatched roofs. These tents offer expansive verandas with panoramic river views and include en-suite bathrooms with solar-heated showers. For those seeking extra space and privacy, the camp provides 3 suite tents, ideal for families or couples celebrating special occasions. Each suite consists of two large tents on a shared platform, complete with a private plunge pool and stylish en-suite bathrooms.

Dining at the camp is a delightful experience, offering stunning river views and diverse wildlife sightings. Guests can enjoy meals under the stars, private dinners by the river, or relax with a coffee in the upper-level lounge. The camp also offers a range of activities, including game drives in open vehicles with sunshades, guided walking safaris, and tranquil boating safaris in flat-bottomed boats. These activities provide excellent opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles, vibrant birdlife, and other wildlife along the riverbanks, including monitor lizards and more.
