Mikumi National Park
Mikumi national park is lying just to the north of the well-known big game reserve of Selous and it covered an area land of 1070 kilometers square at its first gazette in 1964 before extended in 1975 to its current area of 3230 kilometers square located between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range. The park shares its name with the village just at its western border of the Dar es Salaam to Iringa high way which traverses the park for 50kilometers long. Mikumi national park has a wide variety of wildlife that can easily be spotted and it is a well acclimatized to game viewing from big games like elephants, buffalos and lions; Hippo pools provide close access to the mud loving beasts, bird watching alongside water is particularly rewarding, herds of zebras, impala, and occasionally wildebeests, giraffes in the isolated acacia and lilac breasted rollers, yellow-throated long claw and bateleur eagle joined by a host European migrants during rainy season.
