GREYSTOKE LUXURY CAMP MAHALE

Greystoke Luxury Camp stands out as one of the premier lodges in Mahale Mountains National Park, renowned for its thriving chimpanzee population. Nestled in Western Tanzania’s safari circuit, at the base of the lush Mahale Mountains and along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, Greystoke offers a unique and unparalleled safari experience.

From this camp, guests can embark on exhilarating chimpanzee treks, enjoy kayaking and fishing, or take a refreshing dip in the chilly mountain waterfall pools. The camp also offers guided nature walks and exceptional opportunities for bird and butterfly watching in the stunning Mahale Mountains. Breakfast or coffee can be savored while watching the sunrise over the mountains.

Guests at Greystoke can choose to unwind on the beach with a drink or take a sundowner cruise on a traditional wooden dhow, drifting along the shoreline and stopping to fish. The camp’s setting along Lake Tanganyika, the world’s second-largest lake by volume, adds to its charm, making it ideal for romantic getaways.

The camp’s main thatched building, designed with inspiration from traditional Tongwe architecture, features a bar, dining area, library, and cozy elevated platforms with breathtaking views of the lake. Most meals are enjoyed either in the main building or on the pristine beach. Additionally, a quaint sunset bar constructed from an old fishing boat offers a perfect spot to relax.

The six bandas blend seamlessly into the surrounding foliage, providing stunning views of the lake while maintaining privacy. Constructed from thatch and reclaimed dhow wood, these open-fronted rooms are discreetly nestled in the treeline, barely visible to passing fishermen.

Greystoke Luxury Camp is accessible via chartered flights operating twice a week from Ruaha in southern Tanzania or Arusha in the north. The camp also pairs well with a visit to Katavi National Park, with flights connecting the two parks.
