The rugged and beautiful Ngorongoro Highlands offers one of the finest blends of culture, landscapes, and wildlife in Tanzania. The best way to experience the highlands is no doubt on foot. It’s diverse landscapes consisting of elevated volcanoes and craters, forests and vast grassy plains offers a remarkable experience for those hiking through this area. Hikers will experience first-hand how the Maasai people, who inhabit these highlands and the wildlife, coexist. The journey thought the highlands takes us to the edge of the great rift valley where we then descend to the base of the escarpment wall right on the foot of Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai. Known to the Maasai as the “Mountain of God”, Ol Doinyo Lengai is one of the most unique active volcanoes in the world. Our trek ends up on the shores of the beautiful Lake Natron, an alkaline lake which serves as the breeding ground for the Lesser Flamingo.

  • Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater then transfer to Nainokanoka Village for overnight

    After breakfast you will depart early to Ngorongoro conservation area with your lunch boxes passing through Maasai plains to Ngorongoro area, game drive at Ngorongoro crater. Today you will descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro conservation Area supports a vast variety of animals, which includes lions, zebras, flocks of flamingos, elephants, giraffes just to mention a few. Ngorongoro is often referred as the eighth natural wonder, it has been listed as a UNESCO site which is considered the most beautiful and unique place in Africa where man and wildlife stays together in one area, we will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually be seen here. We will stop at a nice picnic area for our lunch break and there after you will be doing game drive while heading off the crater to Nainokanoka village within the Ngorongoro conservation area for an overnight rest before starting the trekking tour next day.

  • Day 2: Nainokanoka Village to Emparkai Crater rim

    After an early breakfast at the campsite, you will drive and later be dropped at some point to start a walk to Emparkai crater rim arrive at the crater rim in the afternoon and after having your lunch you will descending to Emparkai crater base. It takes 45 minutes walking down to the crater base and an hour or more ascending up to the top. Emparkai crater is 23km northeast of the Olmoti Crater, and it is 17.7 kilometers from Nainokanoka campsite. Enjoy the appealing scenery on this trek while escorted by an armed park ranger where you will enjoy what other many travelers consider it to be world beauty. The lake, which draws flamingos and other water birds, fills most of the crater floor, which is surrounded by steep-sided, forested cliffs at least 300m high. The view from the crater rim is one of the most appealing in northern Tanzania, but hiking down into the crater is a wonderful experience as well.

  • Day 3: Trekking from Empakai crater rim – Acacia Camping area

    After breakfast, depart with picnic lunch and all stuffs carried on Donkey back to Acacia camping area via Nayobi village today this will be a fully trekking moment and there will be no vehicle around, only donkeys will be used to carry luggage to another point, enjoy the beautiful scenes of Ngorongoro highlands passing through beautiful landscapes of the area, if lucky you can sight buffaloes and other common animal herds of Ngorongoro area, birds are also sighted.

  • Day 4: Trekking from Acacia to Lake Natron

    After breakfast start trekking for at least four hours passing through beautiful land escarpments to Lake Natron where you will visit Lake Natron in the evening time from your campsite to see the flamingos for which Lake Natron is famous of, if you wish, you can walk at the lake shore in salty water, Visit Engaresero waterfalls or hike to EngareSero rift wall for an exceptional view and experience. You will also have an opportunity to take a plunge into the Engaresero river pools if weather permits it. Return to camp for dinner and an overnight rest.

  • Day 5: Visit of the red lake water and climb of Oldonyo Lengai Mountain

    After breakfast you will driven back to the lake and have a visit to other point of the lake where you will enjoy the red lake water before going back to the Campsite for hot lunch and day rest getting ready for an out again for a climb of Oldonyo Lengai, an active volcano, this is a strenuous climb that usually departs at midnight and takes you to the ash cone for a magnificent view before descending back to the base and transferring back to the camp for a rest.

  • Day 6: Lake Natron to Arusha or back to Airport

    After a tiring adventure and all the trekking and climb activates from day one to a finish day, today will be the day you just got back from a climb of Oldonyo lengai. After shower and taking your brunch, you will drive to Arusha via Longido ready to be transferred back to Kilimanjaro international airport to head back home or proceed on other schedules.
