the Rongai Route is unique as it is the only path that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. This route takes you past Mawenzi, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, while offering stunning views of the mountain’s lush rainforest. Its gentle incline and gradual acclimatization make it a safe option to reach the summit of Africa’s tallest peak, Uhuru, standing at 5,895 meters. With success rates of 84% for the 6-day climb and 94% for the 7-day climb, the Rongai Route is ideal for those with prior high-altitude experience. Although it involves the longest drive to the park gate, this route offers a quieter trekking experience. Spanning 65 kilometers (40 miles), the Rongai Route is accessible year-round and promises an unforgettable adventure that will challenge your endurance
Morning picks up at 4:00hrs from Dar es salaam transfer to Mikumi National Park: a journey will take you to the Tanzania rural life, see the highland, mountain, forestry, local village and plantations, Lunch, go to Mikumi for game drive in the park, see the wild animals, giraffe, Zebra, gazelle etc. dinner and overnight at Vuma Hill Tented lodge or Tan Swiss lodge.
After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Arusha (1400m) and driven to the Marangu Gate (1980m). At the gate, the porters will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your guide register with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). You will then be transferred by vehicle to the Rongai trailhead, which is 2.5 hours away from the Marangu Gate. The trail begins in the tall cornfields then leads into the pine forest. This trail has a gradual ascent and allows hikers to enjoy their surroundings. About halfway up the trail you will have a lunch break and you will reach the 1st Caves Camp (2600m) in the late afternoon or early evening. The porters and chef, who move very fast up the mountain, will reach camp before you and set up your tents, boil drinking water, and prepare snacks for your arrival. After washing up, a hot dinner will be served. For overnight, mountain temperatures may drop to freezing so be prepared.
Following a hot breakfast, hikers will continue their ascent to Kikelewa Cave (3600m). The trail passes Second Cave (3450m) and this is a good spot to take a lunch break. Similar to the first night, your tents will be set up prior to arriving at camp and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks then dinner prepared by our chef. Be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp.
On this day, hikers will enjoy a short, yet steep trail to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m). In the moorland, you will spot exotic plants, including giant lobelia and groundsel. At camp, hikers will enjoy spectacular views and allow their bodies to acclimate. Hot dinner and washing water will be prepared for hikers as they enjoy the magnificent sunset.
After breakfast, hikers will continue ascending east for a half-day hike to Kibo Hut. Kibo is located in the “Saddle,” which refers to the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in an alpine desert. There is no water at this camp, but hikers can buy mineral water and soft drinks at the camp office. An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night. Get to sleep by 19:00.
Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The trail is rocky up to Hans Meyer Cave (5150m). You continue your ascent to Gillman’s point (5681m). Reaching this section is an impressive achievement as the trail is steep, rocky, and at high altitude. Gillman’s is located on the crater rim. From this point, you will usually experience a snow-covered trail until you reach the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime accomplishment! You will be able to spend a short time on the summit taking photographs and drinking tea before the descent to Barafu begins. The hike down to Kibo Hut takes about 3 hours. At Kibo Hut, you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After eating, you will continue descending down to Horombo Hut (3720m). You will have a dinner, wash, and rest soundly at the hut after a strenuous day.
Following a well-deserved breakfast, your staff will have a big celebration full of dancing and singing. It is here on the mountain that you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters. After celebrating, you will descend for 6 hours back to Marangu Gate (1980m). The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Gillman’s Point (5681m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. After receiving certificates, you will drive back to Arusha for long overdue showers and more celebrations.

GREAT EXPERIECE, NO SCAMMING, NO HIDDEN COSTS, EVERYTHING I ASK FOR, WAS THERE!Posted on Google Jelle D'hoop19 August 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We contacted Miraji (head of Ifude Tours) many months in advance to start planning our six day safari trip. Communication was clear, honest and fast via mail and whatsapp. Itineraries are flexible and can be adjusted to your needs. We were timely informed about any changes to Tanzanian or Zanzibar regulations, guidelines for tipping, what to bring and other questions we had. The day before the tour we met with Miraji and our driver/guide Samuel to quickly go over the program and discuss what to expect. The next morning, we left for our safari itinerary to Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro NP. We stayed in comfortable mid-range lodges/luxury tents. The safari land cruiser was clean and well maintained. Samuel was knowledgeable, experienced and a safe driver. During the different game drives we saw pretty much every animal we could've wished for: the big five, cheetah, warthogs, giraffe, zebra, serval cat, antelopes, gazelles, many birds, hippo's, crocodiles, wildebeest crossing etc Lunch was always delicious and the accommodation overall was good and clean, with friendly staff. Ifude Tours is a reliable local tour operator with good value for money. Thank you Ifude Tours for organizing this once in a lifetime experience for us!Posted on Google Sebastien Hilton-Delhaye24 November 2022Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Organised this tour with the owner Miraji from overseas. Whole process was straight forward and miraji and quick good replies. The tour picked us up from the airport when we landed in Tanzania and drove us to some accommodation. Everyone was so nice - the driver the chef and miraji himself there to ensure everything was smooth. The driving was great and the food was delicious and there was so much of it, we couldn't finish it. The tour itself was run so smoothly. We didn't have any hiccups and park entrances or anything else. Everything was organised for us and done quickly on the way to minimize delays. The tour of the park was amazing. Our driver godson knew all the best spots to see every animal we could (and there are so many). He did it in a nice way without disturbing or getting too close to the animals so we could appreciate them without exploiting them. Got some amazing photos of every animal you can imagine. The tents were in great condition and easy to put up. Another thing is that the price was great and included EVERYTHING - no extra charges for anything at all which many tour companies will charge you. The tour is locally owned and operated as well which is great for giving back to the local communities keeping this beautiful park alive. Overall, this was an absolutely amazing experience and I would recommend ifude tours to anyone going, they made everything so easy so great and so hassle free.Posted on Google Benjamin Hilton Delhaye9 November 2022Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ifude was the complete safari experience and I absolutely cannot recommend it highly enough. Miraji was an incredible host who organised everything for us from the get go, picking us up from the airport himself and sorting out our accommodation for the night before as well as a guided bike tour, hiking and local lunch (which was mind blowing) before we even started our safari. The safari itself was life changing as we managed to see over 30 different species of animals and birds including the elusive cheetah and leopard. Our driver Godson was excellent, very knowledgeable and respectful of the animals unlike some other providers we saw whilst on the tour. Stefano our cook was also fantastic and incredibly hard working, the food was absolutely top notch and varied for a range of dietary requirements within our group. The safari van was spacious and well equipped with plenty of drinking water and charging ports for when our phone cameras drained all our battery within the first few hours of the trip. Our camping accommodation was all provided and very comfortable and came with incredible sunrise views included (also a good chance you will be sleeping surrounded by zebras and other wildlife). We covered a lot of distance over the course of the safari but it never felt like a long drive with constant stops to see a plethora of different animals including the big 5, with leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and crocodiles to boot. The experience was overall incredible and I can't thank Miraji and Ifude Safaris enough. If you are looking for the ultimate, authentic safari experience that is run sustainably by local Tanzanians (with money going straight back to the local community and not to global conglomerates with no regard for Tanzania and its people), then Ifude Safaris is the perfect choice.Posted on Google Elisa Hilton-Delhaye9 November 2022Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The communication from the business owner throughout the whole process was really great and made me feel at ease and excited for the safari experience! The price was final and there were no extra hidden/additional costs. The safari itself was incredible - our skilled driver was knowledgeable, considerate of the animals (never crowding them), patient with us and able to answer all of our questions. The vehicle was in great condition and comfortable, as were the tents and the camping facilities. Our chef was always so positive and lovely and everything he cooked was delicious and plentiful!! Did not go hungry. Everything ran very smoothly from the airport pick up to our hotel drop off in Arusha. Had the most amazing experience!! And I loved knowing that our money was going to the right local Tanzanian company who love what they do instead of a greedy American based tour operator group that exploits the local people and doesn't use local guides or local chefs. Couldn't recommend ifude tours any more highly!!!!!! Big thank you to everyone involved:)Posted on Google Jess Myers7 November 2022Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had an amazing time with my friends on a 3 day, 2 night safari in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater with Ifude tours. The organisation from Miraji was great from start to finish and we saw so many different animals and the scenery is beautiful. Our driver Godson was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals so I learnt a lot too! We chose the camping option, the tents were in good condition with sleeping mats and sleeping bags and there were toilets and showers. The food was delicious and plentiful - Stefano is a great cook! I would highly recommend Ifude Tours for your Safari!Posted on Google Y O-A18 July 2022Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. JUST WOW!!! I have been on a number of Safaris in Tanzania and Kenya. This was the the first time I would be going on a Safari with guests, so I undertook EXTENSIVE research to ensure I partnered with a company who aligned with what we were looking for in terms of the economic support and empowerment of the local communities whose home we are essentially visiting by undertaking these tours. Ifude Tours and Safaris stood out because of their extensive knowledge, unrivalled local experience, patience with my thousands of questions (lol!), and unmatched customer service. We had an incredible time exploring the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, as well as a cycle tour in Mto Wa Mbu. Cannot wait to return and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you book Ifude Tours and Safaris for your next trip! We saw 4 of the Big 5, and even saw a cheetah hunting a gazelle. Incredible. Thank you again to Miraji and team - we'll be back soon!Posted on Google Aline Freitas10 September 2021Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
